I know it sucks when solos are sparse and you’re kind of tired of hearing the same lines, when you KNOW they deserve more recognition for their talent. Just let them perform how they do… If they have issues with it, it’ll probably be clear.Īnd I know it sucks that your fave doesn’t have as many singing parts. Can we please stop assuming it’s all about Luke stealing the spot light and taking the fame for himself? Because that’s a lot of what feels implied in the reactions that are happening. I’d also love to see Ashton perform Best Friend alone. It’d also be sick to have Michael perform JBH alone. Honestly, it’d be sick to see Calum perform Babylon solo. YES, Babylon is definitely a Calum song, but hey, Michael’s singing on the track too. All it is, is that songs sound different live, and this our first time hearing it live. It has nothing to do with Luke being the star of the show. It has nothing to do with who’s a better singer. Or the opposite, and they lowered Luke’s vocals in studio, but an equally/higher setting live on Luke’s mic caused his voice to be more apparent. Thus, Luke’s mic was probably set higher and you heard him more. They’re the LEAD vocals and so they LEAD the major vocal elements. The audio at the concerts are always set to have Luke’s mic a bit louder in choruses… That’s kind of how being a lead singer works. However, there’s two very easy and probable explainations that actually have nothing to do with Calum’s abilities as a singer. I want him to sing anything and everything under the goddamn sun. Maybe you didn’t hear Luke’s voice in Babylon and now he’s singing at the concerts and you’re like “Wtf? Let CALUM SHINE!!!”

Luke is just Luke and hearing him all the time also lessens the distinct quality of it. Ashton’s voice feels the most technically sound and has a very silky quality. And Ashton’s voice, which tends to sound similar to Luke or Calum’s at times, has it’s own, smoother feel. There’s a quality to it that when you hear him sing, you just know it’s Calum, you know it’s 5sos. Calum’s voice has a unique sound to it, unlike any other member of 5sos. Michael’s voice is raw and kind of growly. Why? Because of the whole band, his voice is harder to pin-point and match with a specific sound. It might be harder to hear, but generally speaking, unless the sound of his vocals is elevated, his voice is the hardest to make out on songs. Luke is singing on the official studio version of Babylon during the choruses.
